Confucius said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." I decided to stop making excuses. I stopped saying "I can't". I can and I did. In 2011, I have now walked more than one thousand miles. In an effort to help others as well as myself, I donated a thousand dollars to "Homes For Our Troops". But, I'm not done. I'm still walking. Won't you join me on my journey? Together, we can eat healthier, exercise more, and maybe give just a bit of ourselves to those less fortunate.

You Can See Clouds Or You Can Look Forward To The Rainbows
This morning, I knew I had to wait for the garage door opener repair guy to come. It amazes me how, in our fast paced cellular/internet ruled world, businesses can still set schedules saying they will arrive to do something in a four hour span of time. I mean, when I make a doctor's appointment, I am told to be there fifteen minutes early. If I am five minutes late, I have to reschedule.
The repairman was scheduled to arrive sometime between 0800 and 1200hrs, right in the middle of my work out routine and I knew I couldn't hear the knock on the door way down in the gym. Still, I dressed in my workout clothes. Trying to be as positive as I could be, I figured I might be able to do something. I wasn't going to make excuses not to work out.
Our son got on the bus for school and my husband left for work. I was alone. It was early. I decided to go down. I managed to get four miles in before I had to come up and wait by the door. When I came up, I brought the folding mat I bought at Target. It has been an absolutely amazing addition to our gym. Ever since I began using it for sit ups, I haven't had any issues with rug burns. I also brought up some small weights. Today, instead of working out downstairs, I would work out in the sun room while I waited for the knock at the door.
I went through my entire routine...50 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 butt lifts, and 300 weight repetitions...while the cat supervised. When I finished, I folded everything up, grabbed a glass of water, sat down and watched the birds outside. It was very peaceful. Cool, damp, and rainy, but peaceful. The cat? I think she believed I was slacking off...She jumped up on the wicker chest and started fussing at me. Maybe she wanted me to do another mile. Who knows? I don't speak cat. "Come on, drill kitty...I have to wait." All of a sudden, there was a knock at the door and she took off...to hide (some personal trainer she is).
It was the repairman. He was extremely nice, repaired the door in no time and, since it was still under warranty, there was no cost to us. I went upstairs with a smile on my face, took a long shower, came back down, and watched the season finale of "The Glades" on my computer.
I guess I could of skipped my work out today. But I didn't. You know what? I am very glad I didn't. I believe it set the tone for my whole day. When I sat there, looking out the sun room window, I could have seen the clouds. It is pretty dismal out there today. Instead, I saw the possibility of rainbows.
