Planning a healthier super bowl

This Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday.  FOOTBALL!  Whether you are going it alone or you plan to spend the occasion with family and friends, you will probably be snacking.  Will you make good choices or bad?
Here are some ideas:

1)  Arrange to get fruit from http://www.ediblearrangements.com/.  I love this place.  There are lots of healthy and tasty choices.  As a matter of fact, this is now preferred over flower arrangements because everyone gets to enjoy. Or create your own fresh fruit tray with apples, pears, pineapple, grapes, etc (personalize it).
2)  Create a veggie tray.  I like sliced peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, etc...Try to keep the dip low calorie.  I love roasted Red Pepper Hummus.  But spinach artichoke is yummy or maybe a healthy guacamole.
3)  Chips and salsa are always a treat, but try to use whole grain chips if you can (and I like Mango salsa).
4)  Mozzarella over sliced Roma tomatoes.  Sprinkle with EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and fresh basil.
5)  Popcorn (Yes, but avoid loading it with butter and salt).
6)  Nuts (try unsalted shelled nuts or almonds)
7)  A block of Philadelphia cream cheese covered with salsa.  Eat with whole wheat "wheat thins" or "triscuits"
8)  Celery and Peanut Butter (Yes, PB is actually low carb, low sugar and high protein)
9)  Granny Smith apple slices with Peanut butter and Company dark chocolate dreams
10)  How about chocolate covered strawberries.  Heavy on the berry, and light on the chocolate.  Magic Shell (found in the Sundae section) works great for controlling amount of chocolate.

If you need a main meal, try these:
1) Ground turkey chili or veggie chili- Same stuff, different meat
2) Ground turkey tacos - (they now make whole grain hard taco shells and whole wheat tortilla wraps)
3) Pizza - If you absolutely must have pizza on Sunday, make your own and do it with whole grain crust (whole grain NAAN works great too), lower sugar pizza sauce, low fat Mozzarella cheese and lots of veggies (green peppers, mushrooms, whatever you like).  Half the fun is creating these.
4) Shrimp with cocktail sauce.

See how easy it is.  I'm sure you have a few ideas to add to these.
Good luck.  Enjoy the game (and the commercials of course).  : )
